As part of our 'at home' series, we met up with breakbeat DJ, Tayo, in his North London apartment to see what he thinks of the new CDJ-2000s...

Tayo has been DJ-ing since his early years and his career spans across being a DJ, record label owner, promoter and press officer. His South London background provided him with the perfect playground to explore the many genres of bass inspired music from dub to hip hop to drum 'n' bass and now breakbeat.

Tayo's lengthy list of past and present residencies and regular gigs in London alone includes Home, Fabric and The End. He has also played to the masses at the mega festivals like Glastonbury, and to worldwide audiences in Miami, Sydney and Ibiza alongside Bassment Jaxx. In the studio Tayo has recorded and remixed for, amongst others, Carl Cox’s Ultimate Breaks label and has been hailed as "becoming as influential to the next generation as Fabio and Grooverider were to aspiring junglists", by Jockey Slut.

Tayo's hook up with Rennie Pilgrem and Adam Freeland saw them put breakbeat firmly on the map with their night, Friction. Following on from its success, Mob Records was formed, seeing productions from not only Pilgrem, but also Stanton Warriors and Krafty Kuts - and so their bass heavy sound has gone global.
