DJsounds hit New York and stopped by five very different clubs to catch a flavour of the city that never sleeps. The venues visited include Pacha, Cielo, APT, Studio B and Club Shelter.
First up is Pacha, a midtown super-club co-owned by Subliminal Records headman Erick Morillo. Here DJsounds checks out the Objektivity party night and chats to PR queen Betty Kang about what Pacha New York is all about.
Next comes Cielo, an intimate state-of-the-art venue located in the downtown Meat Packing district, where we talk to Cielo resident and the grandmaster of its Deep Space parties (and acoustics!) François Kevorkian.
Then it’s on to APT, a well-established spot also in the Meat Packing District that has welcomed a wide range of DJs. At APT we speak with Justin Carter the music director and catch some live footage of Dirtybird in the mix.
From APT we head to Studio B, over the water in Brooklyn’s Greenpoint/Williamsburg area, where live shows are combined with DJ sets. Here we hook up with Studio B’s head of sound, Chris, who discusses the club, the DJs and what sets the club apart.
Last but not least, DJsounds checks out Club Shelter in Manhattan. Shelter DJ Timmy Regisford and label owner Freddy Sanon have a long history of nurturing New York’s finest underground house, and here we had the pleasure of catching up with Freddy to find out more.
Enjoy the clip. Part 2 will be coming right up…
