Treasure Fingers (SXSW Part 3)

Wed 02.06.2010

In this, the third of our SXSW clips, we hang out with Ashley Jones, aka Treasure Fingers, who gives us his lowdown on the festival, which is held every year in Austin, Texas. He tells us about the different types of people it attracts compared to the Miami Winter Music Conference, and how there are loads of music genres represented.

In years gone by, electronic music wasn't even touched there, but now its a staple and the quality is high. Jones waxes lyrical about the parties he's played at or attended and why it used to be hard work to play at some of the venues because they were intended for rock or indie groups. Now they have better sound systems and proper DJ booths set up with Pioneer favourites. On that note, he talks about the rapid changes occurring in the DJ equipment world and how great it is that different manufacturers now work together to make inter-changeable products and gadgets.

Onto the subject of visuals and Jones seems very enthused at the thought of using DVJs to create an unique set to take himself forward into the next league of musical entertainment. Finally, hear his top tips for a happy and productive SXSW...

A bit about Treasure Fingers...he has over a decade of international club experience and was part of drum and bass group, Evol Intent. He combines his diverse influences and deep history into a signature sound, which has impressed musicians from rock groups such as Snowden and the Death Set to house artist, Romanthony, all of whom have requested him to remix for them.
