DJing may not have been an option on your school curriculum, but things certainly are changing in classrooms these days! This is evidenced by the Make Me a DJ project, a collaboration between the UK National Schools Partnership, the award-winning garage guru DJ Spoony and Pioneer.

Launched earlier this month at London’s Ministry of Sound, Make Me a DJ is now all set to bring DJing into schools throughout the UK. And, with a decade of DJing experience to his name, from broadcasting on BBC Radio 1 to spinning in clubs around the world, DJ Spoony is an excellent ambassador to front the initiative. Created for 12-16 year olds, Make Me a DJ meets curriculum standards and encourages pupils to create mixes, fulfilling learning objectives and nurturing musical ideas. What’s more, these newly acquired DJing skills can even count towards a GCSE in music. The Make Me a DJ resource will see pupils use Pioneer’s DJS mixing software to create mixes of their favourite tracks. They can then enter their top mixes into three prize draws held during the year to win Pioneer headphones and DJS software.
