Exceeda is an experimental audiovisual collective headed by Xavier Perkins (aka DVJ:X). As production and performance virtuosos, they have been delivering extreme AV experiences for over a decade.

Indeed, it was back in 1989 that Xavier started to fine-tune his high-impact editing skills whilst working as a runner in a post-production studio. Around that time, he was also sucked into the UK’s spiralling rave scene (proving that a path of excess certainly can lead to AV wisdom).

Influenced by MTV/music videos, cartoons, AV pioneers like EBN, hip-hop and turntablism, Xavier honed his craft as a VJ throughout the early 1990s, before officially founding Exceeda in 95. Taking AV stimulation to the max, and often pushing it one step further, Exceeda then transplanted their highly-charged live shows from the raves into the clubs – moving crowds around the world with a raucous rollercoaster ride of mixed up found film footage, original graphics, fun animations and funky, synchronised beats. With Xavier and DJ/producer Tom Guest at the helm of many of their live shows, the London-based crew have secured a string of gigs over the years at venues such as The End, Fabric, Gatecrasher and Ministry of Sound, as well as at festivals like Glastonbury, Roskilde, The Big Chill, and Optronica. Now it’s perhaps natural that an act as zany and on-point as Exceeda would win their share of accolades, such as the first ever Diesel-U-Music Best VJ Award in 2003, and a place in DJ Magazine’s Top 20 VJs Poll. But aside from their action-packed multi-screen live sets, where they fully exploit the creative potential of DVJs, computers and video sequencing processors, Exceeda produce moving images and music for an impressive list of clients. These have included MTV, Channel 4, Smirnoff, Nike, Sony and Cartoon Network, where Xavier once worked as a director, creating an AKA Cartoon Network zone, which included a show called Cult Toons where even the toons received the remix treatment! What’s more, wanting to share their AV passion and expose the finest work around, they have even hosted their own club night called [4x4].

Currently, Xavier and Tom are readying themselves to unleash Exceeda’s much-awaited debut DVD album, tentatively titled Fresh Breaks ‘AV Style. Xavier: “In sonitus et lux nos fidos [In audiovisual we trust].” ‘Exceeda – audiovisual specialists since 1995’
