DJ Matt Cooper is a Mixmag ‘Future Hero’, a resident at Dirty Disco and a demon on the CDJs and EFX. Here he presents his final tip: Dub Delay, for the EFX-1000.
Says Matt: ‘This technique is great for creating a break in the rhythm of your set/mix, but use your initiative and creativity to tailor the sound to make it work for you.
The most important thing is to make sure the signal flow on the EFX is set to jog >beat. This enables the signal to move correctly through the unit to achieve the desired effect.
‘Starting with the setup on the jog section of the unit; have your depth and effect settings at 1 o’clock, and your character knob at 0, so no reverb is created. Likewise, do the same on the beat section of the EFX. On the jog wheel section, select the wah effect and bring the jog wheel down to the left so the filter creates a low bass frequency. Now move over to the beat section of the EFX, select delay, and, making sure both effects sections are switched on, you can start to create the effect!
‘Play your desired track/loop, and turn the effect know down to 0 in time with the playing track to create the Dub Delay. Mess around with the parameters on both sections of the EFX to create new weird and wonderful sounds…
‘Enjoy!!’
