DJ Matt Cooper is a Mixmag Future Hero, resident at Dirty Disco and a demon on the CDJs and EFX. Here he presents his second tip: Colour Roll, for the DJM-800 mixer. Says Matt: 'This trick is solely for the DJM 800, as it utilises both the colour and roll effects on the mixer. Select any of the colour effects you wish to use, and preset your desired depth on the colour knob that your track is playing through. 'Now set your roll depth to about 3 o’clock (this will enable you to hear the track and not solely the roll sample) and select your desired roll time (I tend to use 1/4 or 1/2 here but vary it up a bit for different patterns). 'When you’re ready, hit the colour effect and the roll button at the same time, leaving the colour effect on for the desired amount of time. Leave the roll effect on otherwise you will lose the colour effect you have just sampled into the roll. 'This works well with any of the colour effects but you can also play around with the time parameters on the roll effect to create some interesting patterns. 'Enjoy!!' http://www.myspace.com/djmattcooper
